# IFC scope

The first release targets the physical STEP representation used by IFC2x3 and
IFC4 files. The parser covers the ISO 10303-21 envelope, comments, strings,
enumerations, typed values, lists, references, integers, real numbers, and
binary literals.

The semantic layer recognizes common building products and relationships,
including `IfcWall`, `IfcDoor`, `IfcWindow`, `IfcBeam`, `IfcColumn`, `IfcSlab`,
`IfcBuildingStorey`, `IfcRelContainedInSpatialStructure`,
`IfcRelDefinesByProperties`, `IfcPropertySet`, `IfcPropertySingleValue`,
`IfcExtrudedAreaSolid`, `IfcFacetedBrep`, `IfcTriangulatedFaceSet`, and the
supporting point/profile/topology entities needed to summarize them.

It does not pretend to be a complete EXPRESS compiler or a full IFC geometry
kernel. Boolean CSG evaluation, NURBS tessellation, and full schema validation
are explicit extension points; the current unit layer handles common SI unit
prefixes and scale conversion. The generic entity/value model makes further
additions possible without changing the file reader.
